The doctor from Baghdad
The Iraqi paediatrician took refuge in Switzerland with his wife and two children in 2002, fleeing the war.
He was considered as an opponent of Saddam Hussein. The family lived in a centre for asylum seekers in the canton of Aargau. As soon as the civil war calmed down, this doctor absolutely wanted to return to his country and requested assistance to go back and open a medical practice in Baghdad. Assistance was granted to him by our association Reintegration in the country or origin. The ISS has, in addition, supported him in finding office space. Since then, the practice of this paediatrician has become a central element of the public health system of the region.
